JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Social Scientist
Location: Lesvos

Job purpose
The post holder will be part of a wide multi-disciplinary team, in charge of assessing and managing at the field the various needs of third country nationals and performing vigorous and solid field/street-work. (S)he might be asked to support different programmes and undertake different roles and responsibilities depending on the needs of SN. (S)he will be available to work on evening shifts and/or weekends on a rotating basis. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication skills, is proactive and has an ability to troubleshoot, foresee, manage and mitigate tensions. (S)he is focused to the solution rather than the problem. (S)he has the ability to clearly and concisely report on the work performed. (S)he is organized, has stamina and the ability to perform under stressful conditions. (S)he has an easy-going, friendly personality and does not hesitate to establish and maintain contact. (S)he is resourceful and a smooth operator. The position requires a high level of personal integrity, basic diplomacy and courtesy manners and a high level of cultural awareness& sensitivity.
Hierarchy and Reporting lines
The Social Scientist reports to his/her Team leader and the Program Manager.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
· Directly supports and coaches beneficiaries through the usage of simple communication and moral uplifting techniques;
· Assesses and addresses social needs of the beneficiaries, identifies and follows up cases that require special care;
· Performs case management in cooperation with other project staff and potentially SN partners involved in services provision;
· Cooperates with interpreters where needed for the provision of her/his services;
· Closely cooperates with other team members, passing on the information and expressing the need of action clearly and concisely;
· Keeps social register files and statistical records of the caseload and services’ provision;
· Performs social work duties and undertakes procedures implementation when referral(s) to other services are required;
· Regular and ad hoc reporting and fact finding.
Qualifications & skills
Required
· University degree from an accredited academic in Humanities or Social Sciences;
· Experience in social work within the civil society sector, preferably working with vulnerable groups and refugees/migrants;
· Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team;
· Ability to organize and prioritize workload, using initiative when appropriate;
· Confidence with IT tools and software;
· Ability to work unsupervised and at flexible working schedules;
· Ability to troubleshoot and ease potential tensions between the project’s beneficiaries;
· Ability to perform fact finding tasks; clearly articulate results in a fair and balanced way;
· Strong communication skills;
· Basic knowledge of humanitarian sector and stakeholders at national level;
· Previous experience in street-work and/or a job entailing direct contact and exchange with groups of beneficiaries, clients, students etc.;
Desired
· Understanding and speaking of Arabic, Kurdish, Farsi, Pashtu or Urdu;
· Awareness of the cultural background of Arabic speaking and Asian (i.e. Afghani, Pakistani, Iranian) populations, in the context of the current people on the move emergency.

Position: Driver

Duties and Responsibilities
The Driver will carry out the following activities:
· Provides transport to SolidarityNow project or programme staff, associates, partners, guests, visitors and beneficiarieswith the organization’s designated cars;
· Drives Solidarity Now’s vehicles to/from authorized destinations upon request and according to the information received;
· Carries out maintenance, oversees safety and security for vehicles and ensures the vehicles are in good working order (incl. check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.);
· Performs minor repairs, arranges for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean;
· Completes the vehicle log correctly (incl. official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing) and conscientiously in accordance with standards;
· Reports to the supervisor regarding any issue relative to the vehicles such as fuel consumption, need for service/and or repairs;
· Provides travel and transport arrangements as planned by the supervisors;
· Takes account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations;
· Performs other duties indicated by the supervisor such as errands for the project, programme or office and help with transporting goods;
· Demonstrates flexibility regarding working hours and traveling to the field of operations.
Qualifications, skills and experience
Essential
· At least 3 years of similar experience proven by relevant references;
· Secondary Education Certificate (or an equivalent technical or commercial school certificate);
· Valid driving license for Category B vehicles;
· Previous experience of working in the NGO sector with non-governmental organizations or other international agencies;
· Willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment and being part of a diverse team, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and applying solidarity in action;
· High level class driving experience including a very good knowledge of Lesvos roads network;
· Able to perform basic repairs and maintenance work;
· Proactive, honest, integral, kind and cooperative.
Desirable
Good knowledge of English is a strong advantage.

Position Summary: The Social Service Psychologist is expected to provide basic Social Services (referrals, briefings, intake and registration, link up with existing aid provision opportunities) while at the same time is able to identify vulnerabilities and provide specialized counseling, especially to adults’ refugee population

Responsibilities
- Psychosocial Services-Psychological Aid Provision
§ Provide comprehensive package of Psychological Aid Services to the beneficiaries
§ Providing F2F Counseling, Guidance
§ Ensure referrals internally and externally
§ Identify vulnerabilities and facilitate their access to available aid
§ Perform occasional field visits
- Data base and Case related info management
§ Filling and registering all cases and actions to the DataBase
§ Brief and Full Social History taking
§ Updating the hard and electronic files per case

§ 1 year experience in Relevant Position (at least 6 months in project serving refugees and migrants population)
§ Familiar with Refugee and Migration Issues (Asylum processes, Relocation –new Law)
§ Understanding and willingness to promote gender equality and
understand different vulnerabilities, needs and capacities of men, women, boys and girls
Understanding of psychological needs and issues for survivors of Gender-based Violence
§ Cross Cultural Awareness and flexibility
§ Computer literate & numerate
§ Well organized and efficient
§ Good interpersonal & communications skills
§ Native in Greek
§ Fluent in English (both written and spoken)
Desired
§ Field Working Experience entry points, Camps/Temporary Settlement or mobile units serving refugee population

Duties and Responsibilities
As a part of a small but dynamic team operating in Athens or Thessaloniki or Lesvos or Epirus region, the Interpreter under the supervision of the Project Manager will carry out the following activities:
• Provide interpretation services from Arabic and/or Kurdish and/or Farsi or Pashtu or Urdu to Greek/English and vice versa to facilitate communication with asylum seekers and refugees;
• Travels to/from offices and other authorized destinations in the wider area of Athens/Thessaloniki in order to facilitate/enhance filed teams’ work and perform tasks relating to the area of responsibility;
• Translate the contents of documents when needed;
• Work in a multi-cultural environment and accommodate tasks with cultural sensitivity;
• Work in a team, in collaboration with other translators and colleagues;
• Provide information, regular and ad hoc reporting to supervisors and co-workers;
• Respond to queries relating to the area of responsibility and undertake any other duties as required;
• Demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours.
Hierarchy lines and reporting
The Interpreter reports to the Project Manager. (S)he is an integral part of SN Athens.
Occasionally, the interpreter may be in direct line with other departments and officers within the organization when there’s a particular document and/or (ad hoc) task to be followed up.
Qualifications & skills
• Fluency in English or Greek and one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Kurdish, Farsi, Pashtu, Urdu;
• Previous relevant job experience;
• Previous experience of working in the NGO sector with Non-Governmental Organizations or other international agencies;
• Good communication skills;
• Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;
• Familiarity with the People on the Move humanitarian emergency.

Job purpose
The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of project management and the successful implementation of the SN project in cooperation with the Programming Unit in Athens. (S)he will provide broad administrative, programmatic and financial support to the project, including direct assistance to the implementation AND close monitoring and evaluation of the undertaken initiatives. Under the guidance of the Programming Unit, the successful candidate will be able to multitask, perform vigorous follow up and get directly involved in the implementation of different activities related to the people on the move.
Reporting Lines and Hierarchy
(S)he reports to the Head of Programmes, based in Athens.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
· Planning and supervising the implementation of the project activities in close cooperation with the key project staff, HQs team and partners, in compliance with all contractual obligations towards the donor and in accordance with the SolidarityNow SOPs;
· Monitoring the activities and the results achieved against the project indicators;
· Elaborating and following implementation plans and timetables;
· Guiding and overseeing the coordination and administration of all aspects of the programme;
· Implementing administrative tasks and duties in compliance with the SN Manual;
· Directly participating into the organization and execution of the project’s logistics;
· Producing progress, activity and other reports as per request and ensuring that all project reporting (internal and external) is completed in a timely and accurate manner
· Planning the project expenditure and ensuring the compliance of expenditure of budgets with donor requirements;
· Maintaining liaison and collaboration relationships with donors, authorities and stakeholders
· Conducting field visits/work and participating in field activities on an ad hoc basis
· Contributing to the development of management, logistics, administrative and monitoring tools and techniques for staff
· Performing any other task related to the implementation of the project as requested.
Qualifications
Required
· University degree (preferably Master’s) from an accredited academic institution in Humanities, Social Science, Law, Political Sciences, International Relations or related;
· Minimum five (5) years of experience in Project Management preferably in the NGO/humanitarian sector;
· Experience with institutional donors’ regulations and requirements;
· Knowledge of PCM and financial management;
· Experience in working with IOs, NGOs as well as with governmental and local authorities;
· Excellent knowledge of English and Greek; a third language (related to the people on the move emergency) would be considered as an asset;
· Good knowledge and competence of IT applications and software;
· Ability to work under a distance-management scheme;
· Ability to work on own initiative and at the same time as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team;
· Ability to organize and priorities workload, using initiative when appropriate;
· Understanding of the people on the move emergency and the socio-economic hardship aspects, demonstrating high cultural sensitivity.
· Ability to work under high pressure with a great level of personal organization
